Uvira is once again threatened by flooding from the Kalamabenge River, which regularly claims lives and plunges many people into poverty. These floods occurred today, May 1, 2026, between 3:00 and 4:00 PM, while many people were at the Kalamabenge market. The neighborhoods of Bien-Malack, Namianda, and Kilibula are particularly affected by the rising waters. The river flows through the Kalundu neighborhood, near the Uvira town hall. Numerous belongings, including houses, goats, and cows, have been swept away. CAPRIDIS-Monde is launching an urgent appeal for aid for the victims of this disaster in Uvira. Among the victims are two young girls and a child. Unfortunately, this is not the first time these floods have ravaged Uvira, in the South Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
