Art and Unity for Vulnerable Development

Impressive impact. How does AUVD track and quantify improvements in participant resilience and mental health outcomes, and are there plans to scale this intervention in collaboration with Kakuma's formal psychosocial support systems?

Art and Unity for Vulnerable Development

Thank you for your question.

we follow participants’ progress through attendance, conversations with students, feedback from instructors, and community engagement. We mainly look at changes in confidence, emotional expression, teamwork, and how actively young people participate in music activities and performances.

We also listen to personal stories and experiences shared by participants to better understand how music is helping them cope, heal, and connect with others.

As the program continues to grow, we hope to work more closely with schools, counselors, and psychosocial support partners in Kakuma so music education can support broader mental health and wellbeing efforts for young people.
