GEESI Development and Humanitarian Initiative
GEESI Development and Humanitarian Initiative organized a focused group discussion with women on the issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), particularly sexual exploitation through the offering of money, gifts, or favors in exchange for sex. The session created a safe space for women to openly share experiences, challenges, and concerns affecting their communities.
During the discussion, participants identified several key causes of sexual exploitation, including poverty and dependency, lack of education and awareness, weak justice systems and fear of reporting, as well as conflict and displacement situations that increase vulnerability among women and girls. Many participants highlighted how economic hardship and limited access to opportunities often expose women and girls to exploitation and abuse.
