Humanitarian actions for Refugee communities development
HARD Uganda, in partnership with Feminature Uganda under the GEAR Project, conducted a community dialogue in Village 6, Rhino Camp Extension–Omugo, engaging 75 participants including women, community and religious leaders. The dialogue addressed the underrepresentation of women in leadership within the Nuer community, driven by cultural norms.
Women highlighted key barriers: intimidation from men, fear of backlash, low self-esteem due to limited education, restrictive traditions, and lack of awareness of their rights. Following rights awareness, many women expressed willingness to participate in upcoming RWC elections.
Leaders committed to engaging men to challenge negative norms, while HARD Uganda will support mentorship, leadership training, and adult literacy. OPM emphasized women’s rights, discouraging early marriage and promoting inclusive leadership for community progress.
