Opening Universities for Refugees

We are incredibly proud of OUR’s Director, Amna Shah, for sharing her powerful piece on navigating higher education as a refugee in Canada. Her lived experiences shed light on the critical barriers faced by newcomers with forcibly displaced/refugee backgrounds and underscore the need for greater support and inclusivity in Canadian universities. At OUR, we have consistently led the charge in addressing higher education access barriers for refugees across Asia, Africa, North America, the UK, and beyond. This blog highlights the urgent need for Canadian universities to actively support and recruit refugee students and newcomers, ensuring they have the opportunities and resources to thrive.
