Quarterly Multi-stakeholder Forum for development of CWDs.

Today we participated in a quarterly dialogue forum that brings together caregivers of CWDs, persons with disabilities, local leaders, teachers, health workers and partners to share lived experiences, what is working, what's not working and what needs to be done!

Key lessons learnt from the dialogue.

  1. Rehabilitation support should be complimented with livelihood support for self reliance.

  2. Children with disabilities continue to experience stigma and bullying in schools especially along the road to and from school. Some caregivers now use positive copying mechanisms e.g by assigning the siblings to protect the CWD along the way.

  3. Some of the adolescent girls with disabilities miss classes due to lack of sanitary pads.

  4. School administrators have now adopted affirmative leadership post-Special Needs Prefect only to be held by a person with disability who can identify abuses and advocate for the welfare of learners with disabilities.
