About BUILDING KESHO INITIATIVE

The Constitution of Building Kesho Initiatives (BKI) outlines the foundational framework of a refugee-led, community-based organization dedicated to empowering both refugees and host communities in Uganda. Rooted in values of accountability, integrity, simplicity, passion, and measurable results, the document establishes the organization's mission to foster inclusive development across education, livelihoods, gender-based violence prevention, psychosocial support, child protection, environmental conservation, and health. BKI envisions a harmonious society where all individuals have equal access to opportunities and resources. It operates from its registered office in Katalyeba, Kamwenge District, with a liability structure that limits member responsibilities while ensuring accountability through financial contributions upon dissolution. The Constitution details a structured membership system open to individuals and organizations aligned with BKI’s mission, offering rights such as voting, participation, and access to records, along with obligations for compliance and contribution. A multi-tiered governance system is laid out, comprising the General Assembly, a Board of Directors, an Executive Committee, and advisory bodies. The Board is responsible for strategic oversight, policy formulation, and financial management, while the Executive Committee manages daily operations, program execution, and reporting. Additionally, it defines clear operational protocols for meetings, amendments, dissolution, financial audits, procurement, conflict of interest, grievance handling, and data protection. The document emphasizes transparency through independent audits, regular reporting, and compliance with Ugandan laws and NGO standards. This Constitution not only formalizes BKI’s governance and accountability but also positions the organization as a resilient, structured force for community transformation. It reflects a strong commitment to grassroots leadership, sustainable impact, and collaborative problem-solving in vulnerable communities.
