Charity Action
Charity Action has been empowering women and young people in NAKIVALE refugee settlement. It is a refugee led organisation.
Its work focusses on the promotion of women rights, gender equality, fighting gender balance violence, the promotion of Sexual and reproductive health Right and women and young people economic empowerment. Following activities has been carried out:
1. Awareness on gender-based violence and women rights.
2.Economic Empowerment in agriculture: we are training women in agriculture techniques in order to increase the production of vegetables.
3. Training and Creation of VSLA (Villages Savings and loan associations), VSLA are grassroots-based banking, loaning, and saving methods for rural communities. These groups are led by women even if men can be also the members. We have already organized 4 groups of 160 members.
4. Farming component: In this component we have initiated the poultry project which is very easy to raise, it is running well with all young and old women. Two groups of 20 women started with 20 chickens each. We have initiated a photo studio which is helping us to generate money for supporting our activities. We have trained 20 women in soap making and 165 women in financial literacy.
5. Training in skills for improved livelihood (financial literacy in order to train the creation and the management of an income generating activity, English literacy to women, computer basic packages; photoshop and design,)
6. Microfinance project: We are giving women a loan of 100 Euro to pay without interest for a period of 12 months.
7. Education on sexual and reproductive health.
