About HARD Uganda

Humanitarian Actions for Refugees and Rural Communities Development (HARD Uganda) is a youth- and women-led, refugee-founded nonprofit organization established in 2020. It was created in response to the growing needs of vulnerable populations, especially within refugee and host communities in Uganda’s West Nile region. The organization operates primarily in Terego and Madi-Okollo districts, including the Rhino Camp Extension and Imvepi Refugee Settlements. HARD Uganda’s mission is to actively involve and include vulnerable and marginalized individuals in rights-based, sustainable services that build resilience, independence, and opportunities for women, youth, and persons with disabilities. Its vision is to see empowered communities that promote self-reliance, eliminate corruption and discrimination, and ensure equality, sustainable development, and peaceful coexistence through fair resource sharing. The organization implements interventions through six thematic areas: 1. Gender and Protection: Promoting safety, preventing gender-based violence, empowering women, and strengthening child protection systems. 2. Education and Skills Development : Offering adult literacy, digital literacy, life skills, and career mentorship to improve learning, Parenting/Nurturing care and Early childhood development (ECD) and future opportunities. 3. Livelihoods and Economic Empowerment: Providing vocational training, entrepreneurship support, and promoting climate-smart agriculture for self-reliance. 4. Health and Psychosocial Support: Delivering counseling services, mental health support, hygiene promotion, and recreational therapy. 5. Governance, Human Rights, and Advocacy: Engaging communities in civic education, anti-corruption efforts, and leadership training. 6. Environmental Conservation: Raising awareness on climate change, promoting agroforestry, permaculture, and sustainable energy solutions. HARD Uganda’s objectives are to promote community resilience, advocate for justice and inclusion, and enhance sustainable development through locally led solutions. The organization remains committed to creating an inclusive, equitable, and empowered society where no one is left behind.
