Humanitarian Actions for Refugees and Rural Communities Development (HARD Uganda) is a women focused and Youth refugee-led, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of refugees and host communities in Uganda. Established in 2020, HARD Uganda promotes sustainable development through education, livelihoods, protection, health, climate action, and community empowerment. We work closely with women, youth, children, and PWDS to strengthen resilience, promote self-reliance, and advance social inclusion. Through advocacy, skills development, early childhood development, environmental conservation, Agriculture, GBV advocacy and humanitarian response, HARD Uganda empowers communities to address local challenges, build sustainable livelihoods, and create lasting positive change.
Nurture Now, Early Childhood Matters
HARD Uganda under the SPARK ECD Project, with subgrant from RELON Uganda. We successfully trained 25 Caregivers and Early Childhood Development (ECD) Champions to strengthen community-level support for quality early childhood development.
Implemented in line with the advocacy theme “Nurture Now, Early Childhood Matters,” this activity is part of the BEACON Project, subgranted by RELON Uganda with funding from the Hilton Foundation.
The training enhanced skills in nurturing care, early learning, child protection, and responsive caregiving, positioning participants as key community advocates.
They will now champion ECD advocacy, promote positive parenting, raise awareness, support and refer vulnerable children, and facilitate peer learning contributing to sustainable, community-driven systems where every child gets a strong start in life. 🌱
Our Community dialogue on meaningful participation of women in leadership and decision-making spaces
HARD Uganda, in partnership with Feminature Uganda under the GEAR Project, conducted a community dialogue in Village 6, Rhino Camp Extension–Omugo, engaging 75 participants including women, community and religious leaders. The dialogue addressed the underrepresentation of women in leadership within the Nuer community, driven by cultural norms.
Women highlighted key barriers: intimidation from men, fear of backlash, low self-esteem due to limited education, restrictive traditions, and lack of awareness of their rights. Following rights awareness, many women expressed willingness to participate in upcoming RWC elections.
Leaders committed to engaging men to challenge negative norms, while HARD Uganda will support mentorship, leadership training, and adult literacy. OPM emphasized women’s rights, discouraging early marriage and promoting inclusive leadership for community progress.
