GROWING FOOD SECURITY, BUILDING RESILIENCE

Through the Green Harvests and Resilient Homes projects, funded by IKEA through COHERE, HARD Uganda successfully established three (3) demonstration sites and trained 150 refugee and host community farmers in Rhino Camp Omugo Refugee Settlement on nursery bed preparation.

The demonstration sites serve as practical learning centres where farmers gain hands-on knowledge and skills in establishing healthy nursery beds and adopting climate-smart, sustainable agricultural practices. The training is designed to improve crop production, strengthen household food security, enhance livelihoods, and encourage knowledge sharing within the community.

By building farmers' technical capacity through practical demonstrations, HARD Uganda is empowering communities to become more self-reliant, resilient to climate change, and better equipped to achieve sustainable livelihoods.

Together, we are cultivating hope & strengthening resilience

PLAY. LEARN. GROW.

150 Children Engaged in Play-Based Learning

Humanitarian Actions for Refugees and Rural Communities Development (HARD Uganda), under the SPARK ECD Project, with funding from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation through RELON Uganda, successfully engaged 150 children in interactive play-based learning activities aimed at promoting holistic early childhood development.

Through structured play, storytelling, educational games, puzzles, building blocks, drawing, and group activities, children strengthened their cognitive, language, social-emotional, and motor skills in a safe and nurturing environment. Play is a powerful tool that stimulates curiosity, creativity, confidence, and effective learning while laying a strong foundation for lifelong success.

Together, we are nurturing young minds, strengthening families, and building brighter futures.

Nurture Now, Early Childhood Matters!

Nurture Now, Early Childhood Matters

HARD Uganda under the SPARK ECD Project, with subgrant from RELON Uganda. We successfully trained 25 Caregivers and Early Childhood Development (ECD) Champions to strengthen community-level support for quality early childhood development.

Implemented in line with the advocacy theme “Nurture Now, Early Childhood Matters,” this activity is part of the BEACON Project, subgranted by RELON Uganda with funding from the Hilton Foundation.

The training enhanced skills in nurturing care, early learning, child protection, and responsive caregiving, positioning participants as key community advocates.

They will now champion ECD advocacy, promote positive parenting, raise awareness, support and refer vulnerable children, and facilitate peer learning contributing to sustainable, community-driven systems where every child gets a strong start in life. 🌱

HARD Uganda, in partnership with Feminature Uganda under the GEAR Project, conducted a community dialogue in Village 6, Rhino Camp Extension–Omugo, engaging 75 participants including women, community and religious leaders. The dialogue addressed the underrepresentation of women in leadership within the Nuer community, driven by cultural norms.

Women highlighted key barriers: intimidation from men, fear of backlash, low self-esteem due to limited education, restrictive traditions, and lack of awareness of their rights. Following rights awareness, many women expressed willingness to participate in upcoming RWC elections.

Leaders committed to engaging men to challenge negative norms, while HARD Uganda will support mentorship, leadership training, and adult literacy. OPM emphasized women’s rights, discouraging early marriage and promoting inclusive leadership for community progress.

We’re proud to see our Programs Officer representing HARD Uganda in Mombasa, Kenya — presenting our work under the Feminist Approaches to Anti-Corruption Project to our donor and fellow grantees! Her powerful presentation highlighted how feminist principles are driving grassroots accountability, inclusion, and justice in our communities. Together, we are reimagining anti-corruption through a gender lens and centering the voices of women and marginalized groups in the fight for transparency and dignity.

Empowering Women, Fighting Corruption! We are proud to announce that 50 women from Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement have successfully completed training in leadership skills, advocacy, public speaking, referral pathways, communication, and community monitoring! Through our feminist approach to anti-corruption, this initiative empowers women with the voice, confidence, and skills to engage in public design, demand accountability, and take up leadership roles in their communities. At HARD Uganda, we believe that when women lead, communities thrive. Together, we are creating a future where women are not just included—but are central to decision-making and governance.
