Last Week at Hope and Haven
Heavy rains have flooded our humanitarian site in Adré Refugee Camp, causing severe damage to our tents and disrupting the services we provide to thousands of Sudanese refugees.
Our medical clinic, child feeding centre, and community support activities are now at serious risk. To continue serving vulnerable families, we urgently need to:
Relocate our operations to safer ground.
Repair and reinforce damaged tents.
Purchase new shelter materials and drainage supplies.
Protect essential medical equipment and humanitarian supplies from further flooding.
Our food kitchens continued serving plus +1000 daily meals across Alhalfaya, Wad Al Noura and Heridanah. Our food kitchen for children in Golo, Central Darfur, continued serving meals with thanks to S&J Together for Sudan. It is with deep regret, we announce that the Alhalfaya Community Kitchen has been forced to suspend operations due to a lack of funding.
Past 2 Weeks at Hope & Haven:
Golo, Central Darfur: Provided clothing, shoes, beds, and blankets to 70 children. Served daily meals to 100 orphaned/unaccompanied kids. Held health/psychosocial sessions for women, girls, and children at Golo North School.
White Nile, Al Jazeera, Khartoum North: Food kitchens served 1,000+ people daily.
Abu Karinka: Launched Student Kitchen, feeding ~250 students daily.
Sabreen Camp, El Daein, East Darfur: Distributed emergency shelter materials (tarpaulins) to IDP families.
Adre Refugee Camp, Chad: Continued daily meals for 1,000 displaced children and free healthcare services.
Khazan Jadid Unit, Al Wahda Shelter: Distributed relief/protection items to 50 families.
Thanks to partners: Hands of Mercy Initiative, Darfur Victims Advocacy Org, and S&J Together for Sudan.
Sudan/Chad Update | Hope and Haven
CHAD (Al Malik Camp): Our free medical clinic provided consultations and treatment to 445 refugee patients. All departments—Emergency Care, Lab Services, Chronic Disease Management, Minor Surgery, and Pharmacy—remain operational. However, the lab urgently requires a replacement microscope eyepiece. Meanwhile, our Children’s Meals Center saw daily attendance fluctuate between 859 and 986 children, offering nutritious morning meals in a safe environment.
SUDAN: With generous support from S&J Together for Sudan, we continued the Children’s Kitchen project in Golo Locality, Central Darfur. This project provided two nutritious daily meals throughout the month to 70 vulnerable and orphaned children (ages 4–15) facing severe hardships.
Despite critical funding challenges and the ongoing crisis, our community kitchens in White Nile, Al Jazeera, and Khartoum States continue to serve roughly 1,600 people daily.
SUDAN/CHAD UPDATE: May 24 marked the final day of our free kitchen in Abukarinka, East Darfur, which served daily meals to nearly 250 students. The kitchen closed due to lack of funding ($3,000/month needed) and we hope to reopen soon - children's regular access to food should be guaranteed. We successfully repaired the hut of a vulnerable family living with disabilities and provided essential beds and sleeping materials. The past week also saw Eid al-Adha meat distribution to thousands of families across White Nile State, Eastern Chad, Darfur, Khartoum State, and Al Jazirah State. This was made possible through crowdfunding support and our partners Darfur Victim Support Organisation, Wadi Al-Nahl Development Organisation and Bulento e.V. Sudan Nothilfe. Our food kitchens served another week of 1,600 meals daily to families across White Nile, Al Jazeera, and Khartoum States.
Hope and Haven Weekly Update
For the second week, we provided refreshments and snacks to students in Wad Alnoura during exams. We served daily meals to 250 students in Abu Karinka, East Darfur. Without urgent funding, this will be the last week of this kitchen and these students may lose their daily meal. Alongside DVSO, we carried out an emergency medical intervention to support El Ferdous Hospital in East Darfur. This included the supply of intravenous fluids, medications, and medical supplies supporting measles response efforts. In partnership with DVSO and S&J Organisation, we provided daily meals to 70 orphaned and unaccompanied children in El Fasher for the third consecutive week. Our kitchens in Alhalfaya, Wad Alnoura and Heridanah served up a total of. 1600 free daily meals. In Chad, our free daily meal program for children and our free medical clinic continued to serve the refugee community in Al Malik Camp.
