Every child deserves a safe and healthy learning environment. Yet, in Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement, thousands of students remain at risk from dangerous vector-borne diseases that continue to threaten their health, education, and future.

At Hope for Refugees and Action (HRA), we are committed to reducing the spread of disease-causing vectors in schools and surrounding communities through effective vector control interventions. Many children suffer from illnesses such as malaria, dengue fever, chikungunya, leishmaniasis, yellow fever, lymphatic filariasis, and infestations such as jiggers (chiggers). These preventable diseases contribute to school absenteeism, poor academic performance, and, in severe cases, loss of life.

At Hope for Refugees and Action, we believe that every family deserves to live free from the constant threat of mosquito-borne diseases. In refugee communities, where shelter is often fragile and resources are limited, mosquitoes are more than a nuisance—they are a daily danger.
Our Vector Control Project is transforming this reality. Through Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS), we apply safe and effective insecticides to the inside walls of homes, stopping mosquitoes where they rest and breaking the cycle of disease transmission.
But this project is about more than spraying—it is about empowerment. We train and equip refugees themselves to lead these efforts, creating livelihoods while protecting their own communities. This approach builds local ownership, strengthens resilience, and ensures long-term impact.

Growing Hope in a Time of Crisis

In the face of severe humanitarian aid cuts, vulnerable families in Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement are struggling to access basic food and nutrition. Hunger and malnutrition are rising — but together, we can change this story.
At Hope for Refugees and Action, we are empowering households with practical skills and resources to grow their own food through organic kitchen gardens. Communities are now cultivating nutritious crops such as pepper, spinach, eggplant, amaranthus, okra, jute mallow, and sukuma wiki — bringing life, health, and dignity back into their homes.
