Hope Rising South Sudan (HoRiSS) is a burgeoning Christian-founded, refugee-led, community-based organization dedicated to empowering refugees and their Host Communities in Imvepi Refugee Settlement, Terego District, Uganda.
The organization was established in 2020, amidst the socioeconomic vulnerabilities exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, as a small Sunday School Class in Imvepi House of Prayer (IHOP) Church. It was officially registered with the Terego District Local Government, with registration number TER 931/023. HoRiSS is committed to teaching Christian Values, fostering peace, offering relief and livelihood assistance, and enhancing education opportunities. We are located in Imvepi Refugee Settlement, Terego District, North-Western Uganda.

HoRiSS a refugee-led organization began as a Sunday School Class during the COVID-19 pandemic, but now we're positively impacting many lives.

Let's make it a priority to ensure that girls stay in school at all costs. They should have the opportunity to start their academic journey, continue along the same path, and complete their education, just like boys. We are committed to taking one step at a time until we achieve our ultimate goals.

For many generations, the education of girls has not been prioritized, and even in our current era, those who do have access to education still encounter significant challenges related to their gender. They are at a higher risk of school dropout, teenage pregnancy, and early marriage. HoRiSS, through the Hope Discipleship and Education Project, aims to support girls in their academic journeys, just as boys are supported, despite the challenges they face daily in refugee settlements. We believe that with a little encouragement, these girls can succeed and bring about radical transformation in their communities and beyond.

Hope Rising South Sudan (HoRiSS) continues to make a significant impact in Imvepi Refugee Settlement through the Creative Learning Haven Project. This ever growing community resource center offers a conducive environment for learning, benefiting both refugees and the host community. At Creative Learning Haven, we provide access to learning resources, promote reading, and encourage creative and innovative thinking to address community challenges, as well as foster self-driven learning. This month, we welcomed over 400 unique visitors to our center, in a community that doesn't value reading, this is a sign of community transformation. We are excited to witness a community in the refugee settlement that truly cherishes the habit of reading. We extend our gratitude to our partners and friends for making this project possible, reaching out to many refugees and members of the host community.

In our intervention in the community, we discovered that children in the transitional classes like primary 3 and 4 can hardly read and as a result, most of them tend to repeat classes, dropout of school and get involved in all sorts of things. As an RLO, we deemed it fit to help them learn how to read and support their academic journey
