About
Initiative Burundi Uni (IBU) is a local organization based in Burundi that works for social inclusion, economic empowerment, and strengthening cohesion between refugees and the host community. Our mission is to promote sustainable solutions that improve the living conditions of vulnerable populations while fostering their integration within local communities.Since 2025, IBU has primarily worked in refugee camps in Burundi, particularly in the Musenyi camp, located in Burunga province. The organization supports refugees so they can rebuild their livelihoods, develop their self-reliance, and feel fully integrated into their environment. We believe that every person, regardless of their origin or status, deserves the opportunity to live with dignity and contribute positively to the development of their community. Our approach is based on the active participation of refugees and host communities in the design and implementation of initiatives. We prioritize projects that strengthen social ties, reduce tensions, and create shared economic opportunities.Among our most notable achievements is a successful income-generating activity (IGA) initiative focused on vegetable production. This project brought together refugees from the Musenyi camp and members of the host community to cultivate vegetables with high nutritional and commercial value. Participants received hands-on training in sustainable agricultural techniques, technical support, and access to agricultural inputs. Thanks to this initiative, many families improved their food security, increased their incomes, and strengthened their economic resilience. The project also fostered cooperation between refugees and host communities, creating an atmosphere of trust, solidarity, and peaceful coexistence.Today, Initiative Burundi Uni continues to develop programs focused on sustainable livelihoods, social cohesion, youth and women's empowerment, and environmental protection. Our vision is to build inclusive communities where refugees and local populations work together for a more prosperous, resilient, and harmonious future.
