Last Hope Refugee Association (LHRA) is a refugee-led, community-based nonprofit working at the frontlines to protect the rights and dignity of LGBTQIA+ refugees and asylum seekers in Nakivale, Uganda. Founded in May 2020 by a group of transgender refugees in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, LHRA was born out of urgent need. Our community fled persecution in their home countries—only to face continued violence, discrimination, and criminalization in Uganda due to their gender identity and sexual orientation. In a national context where LGBTQIA+ lives are strongly devalued and at risk, LHRA provides critical support: - Human rights advocacy - Access to legal aid and justice - Safe spaces for healing and community - Mental health support and emergency assistance We are not just an organization—we are a movement of resilience and solidarity, built by LGBTQIA+ refugees, for LGTBQIA+ refugees.
