Founded on November 11, 2022, by a group of visionary refugee youths, the organization is headquartered in the Kakuma Refugee Camp, Turkana County, Kenya. It operates as a critical bridge for marginalized individuals, providing them with the tools and skills necessary to transition from dependency to self-reliance. Vision StatementTo create a 21st-century society where every individual—including refugees and marginalized persons—has the agency to influence decisions that affect their lives and the power to contribute meaningfully to social and economic progress.Mission StatementTo empower youth, women, and marginalized communities in Kakuma and beyond by fostering talent, promoting sustainable environmental practices, and providing high-quality vocational and digital education that leads to self-reliance and social cohesion.Core ObjectivesEmpowerment: Transitioning individuals from humanitarian dependency to economic independence.Inclusion: Ensuring equal share of opportunities for all, regardless of status or background.Sustainability: Integrating renewable energy and climate-smart agriculture into community development.Lift CBO implements a holistic range of programs designed to tackle the multifaceted challenges of life in a refugee setting, including unemployment, food insecurity, and climate vulnerability. Livelihood & Vocational Training: The "Skills for Life Center" provides hands-on training in high-demand fields such as tailoring, catering, hairdressing, and digital literacy. These programs are designed to equip youth and women with marketable skills to launch their own small businesses. Agriculture & Renewable Energy: A flagship initiative is the Solar-Powered Farming & Income Generation Project. By utilizing solar-powered irrigation, the organization enables year-round crop production in the arid Turkana climate, enhancing food security and reducing the environmental impact of traditional diesel pumps. Environmental Conservation: The organization is deeply committed to climate action, managing a tree nursery project that has planted thousands of trees to combat deforestation and restore local ecosystems.
