Nairoun Community Development Initiative (NCDI) is a Women Led, Protection, Resilience, and Inclusive Development. Vision. A society where vulnerable and marginalized people especially women, children, persons with disabilities, refugees, the elderly, and displaced communities fully realize their rights, dignity, protection, and opportunities to thrive in peace and resilience. Mission. To empower women and vulnerable communities through inclusive, rights-based, and community-driven programs that promote education, health, WASH, nutrition, women’s economic empowerment, protection, advocacy, human rights, and peacebuilding, while strengthening local leadership and humanitarian accountability. About Us. Nairoun Community Development Initiative (NCDI) is a women-led, grassroots humanitarian and development organization established to respond to the complex and protracted crises affecting communities in South Sudan and Sudan. NCDI was founded on the belief that women are not only victims of crisis but powerful agents of change. Our organization centers women’s leadership, lived experiences, and local knowledge in designing and delivering lifesaving and resilience-building interventions for communities affected by conflict, displacement, poverty, and exclusion. We work at the intersection of humanitarian response, development, and peacebuilding, ensuring that protection, dignity, inclusion, and accountability remain at the core of every intervention. Our programming intentionally integrates gender equality, disability inclusion, age sensitivity, and community participation, ensuring no one is left behind. NCDI is recognized for its strong community trust, operational presence in hard-to-reach locations, and ability to deliver context-appropriate responses in fragile and displacement-hosting areas. Across the fragile communities of South Kordofan, countless women and families have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict and insecurity. Many now live in temporary shelters made of straw and branches, struggling daily to secure food, safe shelter, and basic necessities for their children.

The Nairoun Community Development Initiative (NCDI) works directly on the ground with these vulnerable communities, particularly focusing on women who carry the greatest burden of displacement. Through community engagement and humanitarian support, NCDI helps displaced women rebuild their lives with dignity.

NCDI strives to restore hope, dignity, and stability for displaced women and their children.

Localization Agenda

Nairoun Community Development Initiative (NCDI) places the Localization Agenda at the center of its mission because sustainable humanitarian and development impact must be led by those closest to the communities affected. As the Coordinator under the Charter for Change in Ruweng and across Sudan and South Sudan, NCDI champions locally driven solutions that are accountable, inclusive, and rooted in community realities.

NCDI’s leadership role goes beyond coordination; it is about shifting power. We work to ensure that local and women-led organizations are not merely implementers, but decision-makers shaping priorities, managing resources, and leading responses. By strengthening local capacity, amplifying local voices, and fostering equitable partnerships with international actors.

Building Resilience.

In addition to delivering life-saving humanitarian assistance, Nairoun Community Development Initiative (NCDI) is deeply committed to investing in the long-term resilience and inclusion of refugees because survival alone is not enough. True recovery begins when people regain dignity, purpose, and the ability to shape their own futures.

Through carefully designed vocational training programs, NCDI equips women with practical, income-generating skills such as charcoal production, construction of fuel-efficient traditional stoves, and the making of liquid and bar soap. These skills respond directly to local market needs, ensuring that women are not only trained but are able to earn sustainable livelihoods within their host communities.

From Silence to Protection: How NCDI Began with GBV Awareness

Nairoun Community Development Initiative (NCDI) was born from a simple but powerful realization: violence against women and girls thrives where silence exists. In communities affected by conflict, displacement, and poverty, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) was not rare it was normalized, hidden, and endured in isolation. Survivors often had no safe place to speak, no information about their rights, and no clear pathway to seek help.

NCDI began by changing that reality starting with GBV awareness as the foundation for protection, dignity, and resilience.

As a women-led organization, NCDI understood that meaningful change must start within the community.
