About NLDA

Newhope Inlanguages and Development Association (NLDA) is a nonprofit community-based organization established in January 2018 in Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, Kamwenge District, Uganda. NLDA’s mission is to provide adult refugees, especially those facing barriers to education, with access to essential learning opportunities. The organization's interventions extend across Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement and surrounding host communities. Despite limited funding and technical capacity, NLDA has successfully delivered literacy and numeracy courses to around 80 refugees 23 in Kaihora, 28 in Mahani, 23 in Base Camp, and 18 in Kyempango village with 79% of the participants being women. The organization has also trained 6 humanitarian staff in French and 7 others Swahili. NLDA's success is built on strong partnerships with community leaders, existing community structures, and its primary stakeholders. By applying participatory and empowerment approaches, NLDA ensures sustainable solutions and active engagement from beneficiaries, making the community an essential part of every intervention.

Create a society with zero illiterate women and youths to enable the environment change and improvement of society’s wellbeing through providing educational, environmental and psychosocial interventions.
To see a self-reliant and resilient refugee and host community impacting on the positive change needed for the entire community.
