About Rainbow Sunrise Mapambazuko

Rainbow Sunrise Mapambazuko is a legally constituted community organization dedicated to contributing to the relentless struggle waged by all humanity against human rights violations. It was created in October 2010 in a context marked by violations of the rights of LGBTIQ+ people in the province of South Kivu. Rainbow Sunrise Mapambazuko's actions were urgently launched to respond to the serious human rights violations among LGBTI people, which were progressing in a very different way, given their deadly nature and the lack of resources to organize the struggle. Our mission is to advocate for the promotion of social justice, human rights education, and the construction of a just, tolerant, egalitarian, inclusive, and safe society for the LGBTI community, sex workers, and drug users. Our vision is to make the Democratic Republic of Congo a country where the rights and freedoms, dignity, and security of people rejected because of their sexual orientation and gender identity are recognized and respected. Our Values: Inclusion, Dignity, Equality, Equity, Accountability, Participation and Commitment, Transparency, Responsibility, Independence, Teamwork, and Community Partnership. Our Organizational Objectives / Responsibilities: RSM's objectives are as follows: - To provide mutual assistance, support, and information to LGBTIQ+ people; - To combat discrimination, social exclusion, and homophobic violence; to foster self-organization and autonomy among LGBTIQ+ people; - To support the development of solidarity among LGBTIA+ people; - To promote the decriminalization and depenalization of homosexuality in the DRC. Our organization works in the areas of human rights, gender-based violence, the right to sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, advocacy, entrepreneurship and economic empowerment, and education.
