On Friday, July 24, 2026, Refugee Coalition for Climate Action (RCCA) welcomed a delegation from WFP and UNHCR Zimbabwe to our Nursery & Agroecology Site in Tongogara Refugee Settlement, Zimbabwe.

The visit began at our tree nursery, where we showcased 4,617 germinated tree seedlings and newly sown seeds as part of our annual target of raising 10,000 tree seedlings, thanks to Cohere's support.

The delegation also toured our agroecology site, where we are expanding fruit tree and vegetable cultivation across one hectare to restore the environment, improve food security, and generate sustainable income for youth.

During the visit, we shared how our community-led work is helping the community of Tongogara and beyond adapt to climate change through tree planting and agroforestry, while discussing the challenges we face due to limited resources.

Refugee Coalition for Climate Action's small garden is making a real difference.

Households of RCCA volunteers no longer buy vegetables from the market. We grow a variety of them.

Community members come to buy fresh vegetables.

We have learned that agroforestry can restore land faster. We planted 300 trees on this site; they are easier to maintain because they are watered alongside the crops.

The most important part is learning and adapting. Young people are experimenting, improving techniques, and finding ways to make vegetable production effective and productive

On 6 March 2026, ten members of the Refugee Coalition for Climate Action (RCCA) were honoured to attend a one-day innovation training hosted by Africa University in Mutare. The eye-opening session brought together AU partners and participants from across Zimbabwe. The training emphasized innovation as a process of understanding problems, designing and testing solutions, improving them through learning, and scaling what works to create real impact. For RCCA, the training was particularly valuable as it strengthens our ability to develop creative and sustainable climate action solutions that work best in our context.

While we plant trees, it had been our aspiration to grow what we eat in a very organic, healthy, and nutritious way. Currently at the RCCA Nursery Site, we have seized an opportunity in agroforestry to grow what we eat.
