About
Restore Hope for Street Children (RHSC) is a community-led initiative based in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya, dedicated to supporting street-connected and highly vulnerable children who are growing up in conditions shaped by displacement, poverty, family separation, and limited access to basic services. These children face daily challenges that affect their survival, education, emotional wellbeing, and long-term opportunities. RHSC was established to respond to these urgent needs through structured, holistic, and consistent support that goes beyond temporary relief and focuses on long-term transformation. Our work is centered on creating a safe, stable, and nurturing environment where children can regain dignity, hope, and a sense of belonging. Many of the children we serve have experienced neglect, trauma, or instability, and as a result, our first priority is to ensure their basic needs are met. Through our feeding program, we provide daily meals to improve nutrition and reduce hunger-related barriers to learning and growth. Alongside this, our hygiene program promotes personal care, sanitation awareness, and health practices that protect children from preventable illnesses and support their overall wellbeing.Beyond survival needs, RHSC focuses strongly on child development and empowerment. Our psychosocial support program provides emotional care, safe spaces for expression, and structured guidance that helps children process trauma, build resilience, and develop confidence. We also incorporate play-based activities that allow children to experience joy, creativity, teamwork, and healthy social interaction, which are essential for emotional healing and healthy development.Education and skills development form the core of our long-term vision. Through basic education support, we help children re-engage with learning and build foundational literacy and numeracy skills. Our digital skills program introduces children and youth to computer literacy, internet safety, and practical digital tools that prepare them for a modern, technology-driven world. In addition, our life skills training focuses on communication, decision-making, emotional intelligence, and responsibility, equipping young people with the tools they need to navigate life challenges and transition toward independence.RHSC is also working toward establishing a structured learning and empowerment center that will serve as a permanent hub for education, digital training, psychosocial support, and community engagement. This center represents our long-term commitment to creating sustainable impact and expanding access to opportunity for vulnerable children in Kakuma. Our approach is integrated and child-centered, recognizing that meaningful change happens when survival needs, emotional wellbeing, education, and skill development are addressed together. We work closely with community members and volunteers to ensure consistent delivery of services and to strengthen local ownership of the initiative. At its core, Restore Hope for Street Children is driven by a belief that every child, regardless of their circumstances, deserves safety, care, and the opportunity to build a better future. Through structured programs and dedicated support, we are working to transform vulnerability into resilience and potential into lasting change.
