Rwamwanja Rural Foundation (RRF) is a refugee-led nonprofit organization in Uganda empowering refugees and host communities through regenerative agriculture, permaculture, climate-smart farming, IoT-enabled precision agriculture, Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming, mushroom production, vocational skills, and digital innovation. We improve food security, nutrition, livelihoods, and climate resilience while promoting self-reliance and sustainable development. Through technology, hands-on training, and community-led solutions, RRF has reached over 25,000 people, transforming vulnerable communities into resilient, productive, and climate-conscious agents of change.
About This Innovation
The Resilience and Restoration Foundation (RRF) is a humanitarian and environmental organization working across refugee-hosting and agro-pastoral communities in Uganda. Our GeoAI Resilience Hub fuses European Space Agency (ESA) Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite intelligence with AI-driven analytics to deliver real-time environmental and food-security insights directly to field teams and decision-makers — without expensive equipment or specialist GIS training.
Using 10-metre resolution Sentinel-2 imagery, the platform continuously monitors deforestation, soil erosion, wetland loss, fire risk, and land degradation
🌿NDVI vegetation index tracks forest and savanna health over time
💧Flood-risk mapping identifies vulnerable areas ahead of rainy seasons
🔥Fire-risk & drought alerts trigger timely agroforestry interventions

At RRF, 88% of participating households are women. They are not simply beneficiaries of our programmes; they are the driving force behind food security, climate resilience, and economic transformation within their communities.
We believe lasting food security does not begin with food aid—it begins by equipping women with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities to produce, process, and market nutritious food sustainably.
When you invest in a refugee woman farmer, you don't just change one life—you strengthen families, build resilient communities, and create a more sustainable future for generations to come.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the partners and supporters who continue to believe in refugee-led solutions:

Together, we are restoring ecosystems, creating livelihoods, and proving that regenerative agriculture can tran Women lives.
Transforming Waste into Wealth with Black Soldier Fly (BSF) Farming
At Rwamwanja Rural Foundation (RRF), we are introducing Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming to help refugee and host communities build sustainable livelihoods while protecting the environment. BSF larvae convert organic waste into high-protein animal feed and nutrient-rich organic fertilizer, reducing waste, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and supporting climate-smart agriculture.
This innovation reduces the cost of poultry, pig, and fish feed, improves soil health, creates green jobs for women and youth, and strengthens food security through a circular economy. RRF is also integrating IoT and precision agriculture technologies to improve BSF production and promote sustainable farming.
We sincerely thank #COHERE, with funding from the #IKEA Foundation, for making this transformative project possible. Together, we are turning waste into wealth, creating resilient communities, and building a greener, more sustainable.
