About Safe Environmental Organization

Safe Environmental Organisation (SEO) Motto “Educate to Protect, Empower to Sustain.” About the Organisation Safe Environmental Organisation (SEO) is a Refugee-Led Organisation (RLO) and Community-Based Organisation (CBO) operating in the Dadaab Refugee Camps in northeastern Kenya. The organisation stabilised 2019 iand registered under the Social Development Office (Kenya) and works to improve the wellbeing and resilience of refugee and host communities. SEO promotes community-driven solutions that support environmental protection, education, peacebuilding, family unity, and public health. The organisation engages youth, women, and community leaders to address challenges affecting refugees and vulnerable populations. 1. Climate Change Mitigation SEO promotes environmental sustainability and climate resilience through: Tree planting and environmental conservation Climate change awareness campaigns Land restoration initiatives Community environmental education 2. Hygiene Promotion Improving community health and sanitation through: Hygiene awareness campaigns Handwashing promotion Community clean-up activities Safe water and sanitation education 3. Family Reunification wellbeing Supporting protection and family unity through: Community awareness on family tracing and reunification Referrals for separated children and vulnerable families Support services for affected households 4. Education Promoting education and learning opportunities through: English language programs Adult literacy and numeracy education Youth empowerment and skills development Support for scholarships and training opportunities 5. Peacebuilding SEO promotes peaceful coexistence and conflict resolution within refugee and host communities through: Community dialogue and mediation initiatives Peace education and awareness campaigns Youth engagement in peace and social cohesion activities Conflict resolution training and community workshops Key Achievements Environmental Protection Initiative (2023) SEO implemented a tree-planting initiative with support from Global Refugee Youth Network, planting 1,400 fruit and non-fruit trees in public and private areas across Dadaab Refugee Camps. English Language Education Program (2024–2025) With support from cohere SEO trained 190 students in English language skills. Graduates received certificates, with some securing employment while others are preparing for scholarship opportunities. Partnership SEO welcomes partnerships with NGOs, humanitarian organisations, donors, and government institutions to expand its programs and strengthen support for refugees and host communities. 3.0 Education Program Outcomes 3.1 English Language Course (April – September 2025) Safe Environmental Organisation (SEO) is pleased to report the successful completion of the Six-Month English Language Course, which was implemented from April to September 2025. The project was community-based, designed to enhance English language proficiency among learners from both refugee and host communities in Dadaab. The course provided participants with essential communication and literacy skills that contribute to improved education outcomes and employability. Implementation was led by the second cohort of 2025, under the coordination of SEO, with the generous funding and partnership support of Cohere Charity Organisation. A total of 150 learners successfully completed the program, participating in regular classes, practical language activities, and assessments. The project also incorporated community engagement and peer-learning strategies to promote inclusivity and sustainability. M
