THE KAMP
Kakuma Refugee Camp is one of the largest camps in the world. It hosts more than 15 nationalities from all over the world but mostly from Africa. People in the camp have learnt to live and interact with each other despite the differences in their heritage and ways of life. However, there has been history of tribal wars among the residents of Kakuma.
The Kamp is a group of refugee youths in Kakuma, who are film makers and content creators. This group was created with the aim of bringing together people of different nationalities, in order to foster peace and promote unity by showcasing the beauty of the cultures, traditions and religion of the different people living in the camp. We also want to show the world that refugees are not only vulnerable as seen by most people. Rather, they are strong and resilient individuals capable of growth and progress just like everybody else. The only difference is that circumstances forced them out of their countries and ripped them of the opportunities and resources necessary for everyone's development.
In order to realize its mission, The Kamp creates contents that feature variety of people's cultures in the camp, carry out street questions that allows refugees to share their thoughts and opinions on different topics, conduct trivia questions that educate the world about Kakuma, and make short films that share refugee stories in order to connect them with each other as well as empower and encourage them to tell their own stories.
