TAO Africa is a refugee-led, youth-led, community-based Organization founded in 2023 in the Bidibidi refugee settlement in Uganda. We work with both refugees and host communities to restore degraded environments, promote peaceful co-existence, and Strengthen Livelihoods.Our VisionOur vision is to Transform, Educate, and Empower communities for Resilience and Self-sustainability.Our MissionOur mission is to build a transformed society of youth, children, and the elderly with innovative and transformative ideas that go beyond cultural transformation and development. Thematic areasLivelihoods.TAO Africa strengthens community resilience through sustainable livelihoods activities that create income and self-reliance among refugees and host communities. We equip youth and women with practical skills, such as Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship, to reduce dependency and promote self-sustainability and Dignity among refugees and the host community.EnvironmentWe promote the restoration of degraded environments through community tree planting, household tree planting, environmental awareness and education, and promote clean and smart energies for cooking. Our environmental interventions promote conservation, sustainable resource use, and local ownership of nature-based solutions.Mental HealthRecognizing the trauma caused by displacement, conflict, and food reductions, we provide safe spaces for healing, dialogue, and psychological support. Our activities promote emotional well-being and community solidarity through advocacy, group discussions, and peer support.EducationWe support learning and empowerment through formal and non-formal education, mentorship, and life skill training. We focus on nurturing young people's potential to support children with disability through play and learn, and providing pathways for continuous growth, innovation, inclusion, and leadership. Peace BuildingWe promote peaceful co-existence among refugees and host communities and different ethnic groups through dialogue, focused group discussions, theatre for peace, and community mediations.
