About
Trauma Rescue Aid (TRAID) is a refugee-led, grassroots nonprofit and non-governmental organization founded in April 2023 in response to the devastating conflict which torn communities apart in Sudan. We work with war displaced communities, victims and survivors of violence across Sudan, refugee camps and IDP camps.
Our Work
1. Psychosocial Support & Counseling We provide trauma-informed counseling, mental health support, and emotional care to survivors of conflict, sexual violence, and displacement, helping individuals and families rebuild resilience and hope.
2. Child-Friendly Spaces We create safe, supportive environments for children, offering education, recreational activities, and psychosocial interventions that protect their wellbeing and foster healthy development.
3. Peacebuilding & Community Reconciliation We facilitate dialogue, conflict resolution, and reconciliation initiatives that strengthen community cohesion and reduce tensions in conflict-affected areas.
4. Community Empowerment & Livelihood Training We offer skills development, vocational training, and livelihood programs that empower displaced and vulnerable communities to achieve self-reliance and economic stability.
5. Human Rights Advocacy We document violations, advocate for justice, and empower communities to claim their rights, ensuring survivors have access to legal and protective services.
Our Vision.
A society where conflicts are solved through dialogue, not violence, and where survivors and displaced communities have access to healing and justice.
Our Mission.
To empower refugees and displaced communities through psychosocial support, health education, livelihood training, child-friendly spaces, peacebuilding, and gender equality advocacy that promote healing and justice.
Our history.
Trauma Rescue Aid (TRAID) started after the devastating war in Sudan on April 15, 2023, which tore communities apart. At that time, I was interning at DNHR, where survivors of sexual violence and torture came for interviews. Their stories were documented, but no psychosocial support was given. They were struggling to cope with life in Kampala; you could see their pain in their eyes as they cried and shared their stories. Most didn’t speak English, only Arabic. I kept wondering, how do they even ask for help at a hospital or in the market? I wanted to help, but I was a student with no resources or connections, and honestly, I felt helpless. One day, I shared the stories of Sudanese refugees in Uganda with my friends.
