Our intervention includes community sensitization on livelihood to involve refugees in discussions and activities that promote awareness and action on issues affecting the well-being. we have training sessions, workshops to educate refugees about the economic opportunities, and urban strategies for improving their livelihoods and urban farming and environment protection. We empower women and youth living in the refugee communities to collect waste passion fruits and waste seeds and make our own seedlings from the local market of Kampala, respectively OWINO and NAKASERO Markets 5 STEPS: 1. Collecting seeds waste: We do understand that Passion fruits produce a lot of seeds waste during the processing of juice 2. Extracting Seeds: After collecting waste passion fruits and waste seeds , we extract seeds from ripe passion fruits, we soak the seeds in water for a few days to separate the pulp from the seeds, then dry them in a shaded area. 3. Seed Preservation: We store the dried seeds in a dark, cool, and dry place until you are ready to plant them. 4. Planting Seedlings: We plant the seeds in soil for optimal growth. 5. Growing Conditions: we rent land in the surrounding centers to transplant our seedlings for growth. As Urban refugee farmers in Kampala, Uganda, we are deeply rooted by the urbanization with limited and expensive land and a reduction in available agricultural land and it is severely restricting us the ability as urban farmers to grow local passion fruits and raise local poultry farm. However, By following these 5 steps, we are effectively collecting waste passion fruits, save seedlings and grow them later until we have identified a farmland to rent.
