We are running an English language program that was born out of the joining of forces and collaboration of leaders from the Sudanese and Somali communities who were teaching the English language in their homes. With the guidance of Fulbright scholar, Dr. Shireen Keyl from Utah University, this English language program was brought to fruition, supported administratively by Sawiyan, and executed by volunteer, community teachers to teach English classes to their fellow communities in Amman to create consistent educational opportunities for Adult and children learners from these communities to fill the educational gap and give them alternative options of learning because non-Syrian refugees are mostly excluded in the Jordan humanitarian response plans leaving them limited opportunities for educational opportunities and self-development. This program gives the target communities the chance to come together, share their stories, knowledge, and cultures and develop their language skills. This project has been going on in Amman since 2015 reaching different neighborhoods where these communities are concentrated, 150 learners from 8 nationalities (Sudanese, Yemeni, Somali, Jordanian, Syrian, Iraqis, Ethiopian, and Palestine) are benefiting from this program aged between 8 to 60 years, 68.32% of whom are female while 31.68% are males.
