Annual Report 2024
In 2024, Humanity Hands continued its mission to empower refugees and Host communities through transformative
projects. Guided by our key areas of interventions; Digital Literacy, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights
(SRHR), Child Protection, and Advocacy we reached significant milestones in improving lives, fostering resilience,
and amplifying refugee voices on local and global platforms.
Program Key highlights
Digital Literacy
This year with unrestricted funding from Cohere, we managed set-up a computer learning Hub which has enabled us to equip 73 Youths with digital skills, bridging the digital divide and unlocking access to education and employment for refugees, youths and women.
Sexual & Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)
Our SRHR program aims to equip girls, and teen mothers with comprehensive knowledge on their reproductive Health and also to mentor school going girls. In 2024, we managed to support over 500 girls with dignity kits and they also received certificates of complication. By addressing stigmas and fostering open dialogue, we empowered participants to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
Child Protection
Our Child protection project in partnership with HI prioritized creating safe spaces for children both with and without disability. We managed to reach 5,000 children across Kakuma 3 Camp schools. We collaborated with community leaders to strengthen child protection systems and advocate for the rights of refugee children.
Advocacy
Amplifying refugee voices remained central to our mission. This year, in collaboration with our Voice Rising Consortium members (SIR, RAI & Action Pour Le Progres), we engaged in different stakeholder engagement forums including KISEDP and other UNHCR-high-level meetings. As we continue to advocate for our refugee community in order to influence policies and drive global conversations on meaningful engagement and direct funding of the Refugee-led Organization.
Finally, as we reflect on the progress made in 2024, Humanity Hands reaffirms its commitment to fostering resilience, empowering
refugees, and advocating for equitable opportunities. The transformative impact of our work grounded in Digital Literacy, SRHR, Child
Protection, and Advocacy has not only uplifted individuals but also strengthened our community.
Looking ahead, we remain dedicated to addressing emerging challenges and scaling our responses to create sustainable and long-term
change. Our success is made possible by the unwavering support of our donors, partners, volunteers and the refugee leaders who drive our
mission forward. Together, we will continue to ensure that every refugee has the opportunity to thrive, lead, and contribute to a brighter future.
Digital Literacy Project:
The digital Literacy project is a computer basic project which aims at equipping the refugees’ and host communities’ youths and women with digital skills and knowledge to enhance self-reliance by bridging the digital divide. Early in 2024, we constructed a computer hub with unrestricted funding from Cohere to support the implementation of the digital literacy project and this has increased our reach because it has enabled us to provide a conducive learning environment for our beneficiaries. This has enabled us to train 73 refugee youths and women.
Sexual & Reproductive Health Education (SRHR)
This project was launched with the aim of equipping adolescent girls and young women with essential knowledge about sexual and reproductive health. This education empowers them to make informed decisions about their health, leading to improved well-being and healthier communities. The program aimed to engage and educate refugee and host community girls and women with a focus on increasing awareness of reproductive health, menstrual hygiene, family planning, STI prevention, and leadership skills. Through this project we were able to educate 149 beneficiaries both in schools and at the community level with both funding and in-kind support from Zanne Ndunge Foundation and KDII.
Advocacy
Our advocacy and capacity strengthening goal is to amplify refugee voices in policy dialogues and community decision-making processes. Over the past year, our advocacy efforts have led to refugee meaningful engagement in the policy forum especially in the context of Kakuma Refugee Camp which we participate in policy forums and working groups. In collaboration with Voice Rising Consortium Members (Solidarity Initiative for Resilience (SIR), Action Pour Le Progress and Resilience Action International (RAI) which is a refugee-led consortium that seeks to amplify refugee voices and also shaping a future where refugees lead the way. We managed to co-facilitate a capacity building training for refugee-led and host-led community-based organization which we managed to train 25 RLO & CBO project leads to strengthen their capacities as they continue to respond to their community needs.
Child protection
Our child project focuses on sensitizing communities on the rights of children with and without disability across Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement, and also identification of children dropping out of schools and to sensitize the community on the importance of community involvement in supporting their children education. In 2024 in partnership with Humanity & Inclusion (HI) we conducted vulnerability assessments to 500 Children with and without disability as approach to improve our intervention in support children.
Lesson Learnt
1. Impact of unrestricted funding; We have learnt the importance of unrestricted fundings especially to a growing RLOs since this helps them to scale up their responses.
2. Secondly, we have also learnt the importance of synergies, since through collaboration we were able to achieve our different project objectives through working different partners.
3. We have also learnt the importance of have physical structures which enable to effectively implement its activities without any inconveniences.
4. We have also learnt the importance of community involvement in an organization activity since were able to involve community/beneficiaries in our programming.
5. Attraction of more donors; through our last year activities we were able to attract 2 strategic partners who have both in-kind and with funds supported our activities.
Best Practices
1. Soliciting for funds; We continue to solicit for funds to support our activities.
2. Collaborations: We continue to collaborate with different stakeholders within the context of Kakuma and outside to help in the realization of our organizations vision and mission.
