Project Name: Digital Literacy
Project objective:
- This Digital Literacy project aims at equipping refugee youths and women with digital skills to enhance technical skills and productivity as strategy to enhance self-reliance.
Executive Summary
Humanity Hands has made significant strides in its interventions especially in supporting refugees and host communities through access to quality Education, ICT training, Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and Advocacy. We are committed to our mission to promote resilience and psychosocial well-being among refugees and host communities reaching 100 beneficiaries and expanding our programs in other parts of the camp. With Financial support from Global Well-being Fund through Cohere we have made significant improvement especially in strengthening our organization capacity as we continue to strive to support our fellow refugees and the host community.
In addition to strengthening organization capacity, we have further set-up digital learning hub which currently we offer learning and working space for refugee and youths and learning in order to improve their living standards.
The digital Literacy project is a 3-months computer basic project which aims at equipping the refugees’ and host communities’ youths and women with digital skills and knowledge to enhance self-reliance. As of the Q1 we managed to construct computer hub to support the implementation of the digital literacy project and this has enabled enroll students and we managed to register 50 beneficiaries and due to shortage of learning devices (Laptops) that is why we have managed to enroll 50(41M, 9F) students as our first cohort, but 18(16M, 2F) beneficiaries managed to graduate but some drop off on the way because of different reasons.
Lesson Learned
- We have learnt the importances of participating in stakeholder’s meetings because we managed to secure 2 partnerships with strategic partners which will strengthen our interventions as an organization.
- Secondly, we have also learnt the importance of quipping refugees with digital skills which matter in today world. Through the gained skills, 4 of our beneficiaries have secured employment with organizations and this will earn them some additional income to improve their well-being and further enhance their self-reliance.
- We have also learnt the importance of collaboration which we have partnered with Shining Star students in Abu Dhabi and have donated learning and teaching materials to our learning Centre.
- We have also learnt the importance of participating in learning space-We continue to participate in webinars and training especially with recent training organized by Voices Rising Consortium and Cohere which has equipped our program leads with viable skills and knowledge needed to strengthen our organization responses.
- We have learned the impact of supporting of refugee-led organizations with quality fundings that can help them strengthen their organization capacity.
Best practices
- Resource mobilization- we continue to submit proposals/concept notes/ partnership seeking letters to different funders/donors requesting for funding and materials support to help us secure sustainable funding that will help us strengthen our organization interventions in different avenues. As a result of soliciting for funds and support, we have been supported with learning and teaching materials to support our education project. This has further led to the visit to our Centre by potential/strategy partners (DCA, Plan International, KDII and HI).
- Participation in stakeholders’ engagement forums: We continue to register our interest to participate in engagement forums in order to help us learn and also strategically seek out for potential partner funders/donors to support our cause.
- Community involvement in our project designs and monitoring- We continue to engage different stakeholders especially community leaders in our program design in order to improve and inform our future programming.
- Established organization donor management system to help in analyzing the donor’s engagement and also strategically develop fundraising proposals that resonate with funders/donors’ requirements having learned this strategy from capacity strengthening webinar.
- Graduation: We have managed to graduate 18 students under digital literacy project as part of the first cohort
