Project Name: Tech Skills for Empowerment(TSE)

3. To enable refugees youths and women access to employment and to cultivate culture of entreprenurship.

Report Summary

The report highlights organization activities progress more precisely under ICT training courses funded by Cohere. The report highlights the lessons learnt, challenges and the proposed recommendations based on the project progress. The report furthermore, highlights the enrollment and commencement of learning for the first cohort which the learning has commenced since the month of March and we managed to register 62 beneficiaries (51M,11F) and out of the registered beneficiaries we managed to enroll 47 beneficiaries (45M, 2F) as the first cohort because of some factors attributed to inadequate learning equipment (Laptops) and space. 

The project is fully commercialized with students paying little charges in order to sustain the project beyond the donor funding and that is why we have decided to commercialize the learning which in return has forced us to take less number because of the above outlined factors of lack of enough learning/teaching materials and the space.  

Project overview

Tech-Skills for Empowerment (TSE) project, an approach of enhancing Refugees Youths and Women Access to Education through ICT training, aims to address the need for refugee youths' access to digital skills that matters in today's world by providing access to 3 months Computer basic training. The project targeted underserved communities (Refugee Youths) with limited access to computer basic training courses with the aim of equipping youths with skills and knowledge to promote self-reliance.

Over the past few weeks of project roll-out there has been significant improvement in beneficiaries skills development especially on theory concept and practical knowledge of computer learning. The 3 month computer training aims to provide youths and women with computer basic skills and knowledge which will help them leverage on the existing opportunities that can help them become self-reliant. 

Lesson Learnt

• We have learnt the importance of grassroot, regional and international collaboration which has enabled us to leverage on the existing learning opportunities hence improve our intervention especially under this ICT project.  The project has attracted the attention of other ICT implementing partners and this has opened up opportunities for synergy.
• We have learned the importances and the impact of computer skills and knowledge especially to displaced populations more precisely to youths and women especially those from displaced background.
• Last but not least, we have also learned the role unrestricted funding opportunity plays in equipping and sustaining RLOs especially in realisation of their program implementation dream because the unrestricted funding that we have recieved has enable us to set-up the computer Hub which has enable us in equipping refugees youths and women with access to digital learning and access to online opportunities.

Best practice

• Fundraising- We continue to apply for funding opportunities by submitting proposals/concept notes/requests for partnership to different funders/donors requesting for funding and materials support to help us secure sustainable funds that will enable us strengthen our organization capacity in different avenues. As a result of soliciting for funds and support we have been supported with 2 laptops in order to strengthen our intervention.
• Networking/Collaboration; We continue to network and collaborate with other ICT implementing partners both local and internationals in order to promote knowledge sharing sessions as strategy to improve our interventions
