About Art and Unity for Vulnerable Development

Art and Unity for Vulnerable Development (AUVD) is a nonprofit Community-Based Organization (CBO) and Refugee-Led Organization (RLO) located in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya. Founded in 2022 and formally registered in 2025, AUVD works to empower vulnerable communities, including refugees, women, youth, and persons with disabilities, through creative arts, skills development, and inclusive community programs. Our organization was established in response to the social and economic challenges faced by displaced and marginalized populations in Kakuma Refugee Camp and surrounding host communities. AUVD believes that art and creativity are powerful tools for healing, empowerment, education, and social transformation. Through artistic expression, livelihood training, and community engagement initiatives, AUVD promotes resilience, social cohesion, and economic inclusion. Our programs focus on mental well-being, peacebuilding, cultural expression, and skills development to help individuals rebuild confidence, develop talents, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities. AUVD implements inclusive initiatives such as art workshops, community dialogue sessions, youth empowerment programs, women’s capacity-building activities, and vocational training aimed at strengthening self-reliance and community participation. By integrating creativity with development, AUVD provides safe spaces where vulnerable individuals can express themselves, learn new skills, and contribute positively to their communities.
