From Resilience to Growth: Anifa's Story of Hope
In the face of deepening humanitarian challenges and reduced aid in Dzaleka Refugee Camp Malawi, refugee entrepreneurs are working harder than ever to provide for their families.
Anifa, a mother of eight, is one of them. Running a small business, she struggled to keep enough stock as rising costs and limited capital threatened her livelihood.
Through Fountain of Hope Africa's Livelihood program, Anifa accessed the financial support and coaching she needed to expand her inventory, increase her income, and strengthen her business. Today, she is better able to care for her children, meet her customers' needs, and look to the future with renewed confidence.
"This support gave me more than capital, it gave me hope. My business is growing, and so is my family's future." Anifa
As humanitarian assistance declines, investing in refugee entrepreneurs is helping families build resilience, restore dignity, and build self-reliance.
Learning becomes even more powerful when children enjoy the journey.
Every afternoon, 300+ children from the host community around Dzaleka Refugee Camp-Malawi discover the joy of learning through technology while supporting them strengthen their literacy and numeracy skills, building confidence and curiosity..

Standing with Women Entrepreneurs in Challenging Times
This week, the Fountain of Hope Africa team RDC is visiting women-owned small businesses across underserved neighborhoods in Bukavu, South Kivu, providing mentorship and business coaching to help entrepreneurs navigate one of the most challenging periods the region has faced.
As ongoing conflict and the Ebola outbreak continue to disrupt supply chains, reduce purchasing power, and limit market access, these resilient women are refusing to give up. Their small businesses are more than sources of income—they are lifelines that put food on the table, keep children in school, and strengthen the resilience of entire communities.
Through continuous mentorship and tailored business support, we are helping women adapt, rebuild, and grow despite the crisis. When a woman-owned business succeeds, families become more secure, local markets recover, and communities move one step closer to lasting stability.
Last week, we were honored to welcome a team from our partner Cohere to Fountain of Hope Africa’s Malawi site in Dzaleka Refugee Camp. The visit highlighted how locally designed, community-led solutions are addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing refugees and host communities—from quality education and livelihood opportunities to resilience and self-reliance.
Seeing children learning, women and young entrepreneurs growing their businesses, and communities leading their own development reaffirmed a simple truth: the people closest to the challenges are often closest to the solutions.
Thank you, Cohere , for your visit and for believing in local leadership.

No child should face displacement alone
Across Eastern D.R.Congo, the worsening humanitarian crisis has left thousands of children separated from their families. Unaccompanied and separated children are among the most vulnerable, carrying the trauma of violence, loss, and the uncertainty of not knowing where—or if—they will see their loved ones again.
As conflict continues to displace more families and communities, these children face higher risks of abuse, exploitation, trafficking, neglect, and other forms of violence. Without the protection of a caring adult, many are forced to navigate unimaginable challenges alone while their hopes for safety and a normal childhood grow more fragile each day.
Every child deserves protection, care, and the chance to heal. Collective efforts can help restore hope by investing in holistic solutions that match education with livelihoods, mental health support, child and safe spaces where children can recover, learn, and rebuild their futures.
A new week, a proud progress!
We are excited to celebrate our 38 Form 2 students in Dzaleka Refugee Camp, who successfully completed their Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examinations this month.
At a time when funding cuts and the reduction of humanitarian services continue to threaten education for displaced children, this is a powerful reminder that investing in quality education gives young people hope and opportunities for a brighter future.
We are proud of their resilience and wish them every success in the next chapter of their educational journey!
We are excited and honored to join the 5th Cohort of African Collaborative. This partnership represents a valuable opportunity to strengthen Fountain of Hope Africa’s capacity, expand our impact, and enhance the quality of services we provide to vulnerable communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Malawi. We look forward to learning, collaborating, and continue building adapted innovative solutions that create lasting change for the children, women, and families we serve.

Amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Eastern DRC, thousands of children affected by armed conflict, displacement, and loss continue to carry deep emotional scars. Through our Psychosocial Support in Goma and Bukavu, Fountain of Hope Africa team continues to provide safe spaces, counseling, structured play, and healing activities that help children overcome trauma, restore hope, and regain a sense of normalcy.
Despite growing humanitarian needs and shrinking funding, we remain committed to ensuring that forcibly displaced and conflict-affected children receive the care, protection, and emotional support they need to heal and thrive. Every smile regained, every fear overcome, and every child who returns to learning with confidence is a powerful step toward recovery and resilience #EasternDRC #Goma #Bukavu #ForciblyDisplacedChildren #HopeAndHealing #FountainOfHopeAfrica
Solidarity With Refugees
Today, we continue to stand in solidarity with millions of forcibly displaced children, women and men around the world whose lives have been disrupted by conflict, violence, and displacement. Yet, beyond their circumstances, refugees and asylum seekers are leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, students, parents, and dreamers, individuals with extraordinary strength, talent, and the power to transform communities.
Our belief at Fountain of Hope Africa is that every forcibly displaced person deserves more than safety; They deserve dignity, inclusion, and the opportunity to thrive. Through sustainable livelihoods, education and empowerment initiatives, we remain committed to helping displaced communities rebuild their lives and realize their full potential.
Every act of kindness matters. Every opportunity can change a life. Every voice can inspire hope.
Stand with refugees today. Invest in hope. Empower potential.
Leadership Rooted in Hope, Service, and Courage
Before the official inauguration, Fountain of Hope Africa's Founder and Executive Director, Marcel Cirhuza, had the privilege of visiting the Obama Presidential Center, a powerful space that reflects the values of service, hope, and transformative leadership.
Walking through the center was a reminder that courageous leadership is not about power, but about lifting others, building bridges, and inspiring people to believe in a better future. President Barack Obama's legacy of humility, integrity, inclusion, resilience, and unwavering commitment to humanity continues to inspire leaders across the world.
As someone who has experienced displacement and now works to empower vulnerable communities, Marcel was deeply moved by the vision that ordinary people can create extraordinary change when they lead with purpose, compassion, and hope.
Until Everyone Is Safe
On 20th June, we will honor the courage, resilience, and dreams of millions of refugees around the world. Every displaced person carries a story of strength and deserves safety, dignity, and an opportunity to thrive.
At Fountain of Hope Africa, we believe that hope has no borders and that together, we can build communities where refugees are empowered to learn, grow, and succeed.
Join us in standing for inclusion, compassion, and equal opportunities for all forcibly displaced individuals and families.

Today, on the Day of the African Child, we join the continent in calling for universal access to water, sanitation, and hygiene for every child in Africa.
For millions of children, especially those living in displacement sites, refugee camps and conflict-affected communities, access to safe water and sanitation remains a daily challenge. No child should have to miss school, risk illness, or lose their dignity because of a lack of clean water and hygiene facilities.
At Fountain of Hope Africa, we believe that access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene is not a privilege—it is a fundamental right and a foundation for health, education, protection, and opportunity.
As we celebrate the resilience and potential of Africa's children, let us recommit to ensuring that no child, including those forced to flee their homes, is left behind.

Transforming Learning Through Technology in Dzaleka Refugee Camp
We were honored to welcome the One Billion team to Fountain of Hope Africa’s education centers at Dzaleka Refugee Camp, Malawi, where they witnessed how digital learning is transforming the educational journey of refugee and host community children.
Implemented in partnership with Imagine Worldwide, and powered by One Billion’s innovative learning software, our tablet-based education program is helping children develop foundational literacy and numeracy skills through engaging, interactive, and self-paced learning. In a context where access to quality education remains a major challenge, technology is helping bridge learning gaps and unlock new opportunities for children to thrive.
The visit provided an opportunity to hear directly from learners, teachers, and community members about the positive impact the program is having on children's confidence, academic performance, and enthusiasm for learning.
💔 An Ignored Reality too many Families are facing in Eastern DRC
While touring Karisimbi municipality in Goma, eastern DRC, our Field Officer Francine made a heartbreaking discovery while identifying forcibly displaced families for enrollment into our Livelihood and Economic Empowerment Program.
Inside an old building destroyed by bombs shells, she found several displaced families living in extreme distress and high-risk conditions. Among them was a widowed mother caring for six children, including a 7-year-old who was shot in the leg months ago. Since the injury, he has never received proper medical attention only a few painkillers and antibiotics. The child continues to endure unimaginable pain, while the entire family struggles missing almost everything.
Sadly, this is not an isolated case; countless families in affected zones are facing similar realities as the humanitarian crisis continues to worsen.
Stand with us to help the most vulnerable families access urgent services.
🧑🎓Every child deserves more than a seat in a classroom—they deserve a quality education that unlocks their potential and shapes their future.
At Fountain of Hope Africa, we prioritize quality over quantity, ensuring that forcibly displaced children receive the support, learning environment, and opportunities they need to thrive. Refugee children have the same dreams, talents, and rights as every other child in the world. Investing in quality education is investing in hope, dignity, and a brighter future for all.

Bringing Hope and Livelihood Support to Displaced Families.
This week, Program Manager, Fanny, is on the ground in Kasheke, near Bukavu in Eastern DRC, providing livelihood support to forcibly displaced families with children under five years old who continue to face the devastating impacts of conflict and the ongoing Ebola outbreak.
As violence and health emergencies continue to disrupt lives across the region, many families are struggling to meet their most basic needs. Women and young children remain among the most vulnerable, facing food insecurity, loss of income, and limited access to opportunities that can help them rebuild their lives.
Through our livelihood program, families are receiving practical support to strengthen their resilience, restore their sources of income, and improve their ability to care for their children with dignity and hope.
From Struggle to Success
Evelyn, a single mother from Lillambwe Village near Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi, she is living proof of what is possible when women are given the opportunity to succeed.
Over the past three years, through Fountain of Hope Africa’s Livelihood and Economic Empowerment Program, Evelyn received business skills training, financial support, and mentorship. Today, she has grown a successful farming business that combines crop production and livestock farming, generating a sustainable income for her family.
Her earnings now enable her to care for her two children, pay school their fees, and meet her household needs. One of her most remarkable achievements has been building her own house—a dream that once seemed out of reach.
Expanded Digital Learning Opportunities
Last, Fountain Of Hope Africa, expanded its digital learning program to five additional community schools at Dzaleka refugee camp Malawi.
This initiative reaches more than 800 additional primary school learners are now benefitting from tablet-based learning designed to strengthen numeracy and literacy skills.
Beyond improving academic performance, this expansion is also helping boost school attendance, student engagement, and confidence in learning. In a context where many children face barriers to quality education, this project is playing a crucial role in advancing our mission of creating inclusive and meaningful learning opportunities for forcibly displaced children.
We are fully committed to reaching as many children as possible, support tier learning , growth , and build a brighter future. #educationforall #Withrefugees
Courage in crisis time!
Yesterday, Fountain of Hope Africa started the week with hope and new beginnings as we provided small business grants to a new group of young women entrepreneurs from Karisimbi, Goma after successfully completing their business skills training.
At a time when communities in Eastern DRC continue to face worsening humanitarian challenges caused by ongoing conflict, displacement, economic hardship, and the impact of Ebola, many women are struggling daily to provide for their families and rebuild their lives.
These small grants represent more than financial support — they are an opportunity for these young women to restore dignity, create sustainable livelihoods, support their children, and contribute positively to their communities. Through their businesses, they are becoming part of the resilience and recovery that Eastern DRC urgently needs.
The needs remain immense, and many more families are still waiting for opportunities to rebuild their futures with dignity.
A Golden Day of Service
Today, our teams in Goma and Bukavu dedicated their Christmas to delivering food packages to the most vulnerable forcibly displaced families in the zones affected by war. While many celebrated, they chose compassion, solidarity, and hope.
We are deeply greaful to our friends and partners who made this possible.
Full photos from the field are coming soon, stay with us.

The needs are growing faster than the resources.
