At Hope for People with Disability (HPD), we don't wait for the rain we find solutions!

We have installed a water tank at our demonstration garden in Rwamwanja to keep our crops thriving during the dry season, ensuring our community continues to enjoy fresh vegetables and food security all year a long.

At Hope for People with Disability (HPD), with support from the IKEA Foundation, we trained  20 women including mothers of children with disabilities and women living with disabilities on home-based vegetable gardening.  in Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement on Friday 08/05/2026

This initiative equips families to grow nutritious food, strengthen their bodies, and build resilience through sustainable practices.

Prior to GWBF grant, some HPD members had skills in shoe repair, bag-making, and carpentry but lacked a dedicated space to share their knowledge and avoid issues of bad weather conditions, The grant provided: 

- A training center where skilled members teach other persons with disabilities. And  

- Opportunities for learners to acquire trades that will help them earn a living in the future. 

- A shoe-making machine, enabling both repair and production of new shoes. 

The center is now operational, with learners engaged in different trades, building pathways to self-reliance. 

Before receiving GWBF support, HPD had no permanent address. We often met at the Rwamwanja Youth Center, and when it was occupied, we borrowed space in an ECD Center during evenings. Then later, we were temporarily given a small room to serve as an office by a community member. 

The GWBF grant enabled us to overcome this challenge by purchasing a three-room house. 

- One rooms now serve as vocational training spaces. 

- One room functions as our office. 

- One room is used as a store. 

This milestone gave HPD a permanent home and a foundation for growth.
