Theme: Act Now! End Digital Abuse and Exploitation Against Women and Girls

On 5 December 2025, Luckista Unite joined communities in Rajaf East to mark the 16 Days of Activism, calling for urgent action to end online harassment, cyberbullying, and digital exploitation affecting women and girls in Central Equatoria State. Digital spaces must be safe, empowering, and free from violence.

We appreciate the partnership of the State Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, UNMISS, IsraAID, UNHCR, UNICEF, Norwegian Church Aid, DanChurchAid, Oxfam, World Vision, Nile Hope, and many others whose support made this day impactful.

Great strides at Luckista Unite!

In the first two weeks of November 2025, we conducted two comprehensive mentorship sessions on practical business skills in Mangateen IDP Settlement, targeting 40 youth and women from IDP and returnee communities. The mentorships were delivered by Luckista Unite staff and led by a consultant from Pro-Tec Africa, ensuring participants gained hands-on knowledge and guidance for starting and managing small businesses.

This activity is part of our ongoing project funded by UNHCR, aimed at building the economic resilience of displaced and vulnerable households. The participants’ energy, passion, and commitment to learning were truly inspiring, and we look forward to seeing the positive transformation their new skills will drive.

Empowering Youth and Women in Mangateen IDP Camp

Luckista Unite is proud to announce the successful disbursement of livelihood support to 40 youth and women in Mangateen IDP Camp, Juba, South Sudan. Each participant received $100 (in local currency equivalent) as startup capital to strengthen their new and existing small businesses.

This initiative aims to enhance self-reliance and economic resilience among internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees, enabling them to rebuild their lives with dignity and confidence.

The project is funded by UNHCR South Sudan, under our joint commitment to promote livelihoods and economic empowerment for vulnerable communities.

Together, we are creating opportunities and hope—one business at a time.

Empowering IDP and Returnee Entrepreneurs in Mangateen

Luckista Unite, with generous support from UNHCR South Sudan, has successfully trained 40 youth and women from the IDP and returnee communities in Mangateen settlement on essential business and entrepreneurship skills.

The training equipped participants with practical knowledge in business planning, financial management, marketing, and customer relations, empowering them to start, manage, and grow their small businesses sustainably.

This initiative aims to strengthen the self-reliance and economic inclusion of displaced and returnee populations by creating livelihood opportunities and promoting community resilience.

“We are committed to building the skills and confidence of youth and women so they can transform challenges into opportunities,” said a Luckista Unite representative during the closing session.

In the heart of Juba, within the Mangateen IDP Settlement, hundreds of displaced youth and women are striving each day to rebuild their lives with dignity. Despite the hardships of conflict and displacement, their resilience and determination to work for a better future shine through every story we heard.

Recently, Luckista Unite conducted a Baseline Survey titled “Self-Employment and Business Development for Youth and Women in Mangateen IDP Settlement” to understand the livelihoods, dreams, and challenges of the people we serve.
Here’s what we found—and why we’re inviting you to be part of the transformation.

What We Learned

Between 23–25 September 2025, our team interviewed 20 participants (14 women, 6 men), held 2 focus group discussions, and spoke with key community leaders.
What we discovered paints both a sobering and inspiring picture:

85% of respondents are internally displaced persons (IDPs) who fled conflict.
50% rely on small informal businesses like table vending to survive.
30% depend on casual labor, while 80% still rely on humanitarian aid.
The biggest challenge? Lack of capital (90%), limited tools (70%), and restricted access to financial services (80%).
Yet, their confidence to expand their businesses—if given support—scored 4 out of 5.

These are not people waiting for handouts; they are entrepreneurs waiting for opportunity.

The Spark of Change

Through this project, Luckista Unite aims to turn that motivation into measurable progress.
Our intervention focuses on:

Providing start-up capital or small business grants
Offering business and financial management training
Supplying basic tools and equipment
Linking participants to mentorship and savings groups

During the survey, we met women who dream of opening food stalls, youth eager to start phone repair businesses, and parents who want to provide for their children through honest work. All they need is a helping hand to turn those dreams into income and independence.
