Out of the Ashes, We Build Our Future.

Today, the roar of the furnace in Village 4. Day 1 of our 10-day hands-on aluminum saucepan production training is officially underway

Under Green Camp 2.0 project funded by IKEA Foundation through Cohere. we are skilling 20 household heads from both refugee settlement and host community.

Today, they stepped into a shared workspace as a unified team. hands working together to sort, clean and weigh discarded aluminum scrap metal, clearing it from our shared soil.

Watching a youth teach refugee neighbors operate the furnace blowers together proves that true peace is built when we share a workplace to feed our families.

We are turning environmental waste into a green marketplace. These 20 families aren't just learning a trade, they are rewriting the story of self-reliance in Bidibidi.

Day 1 is in the books. the fire is hot and tomorrow we cast the first saucepan

Over a two-day field deployment concluding today, Reliable Refugee Storytellers Association (RRSA) finalised community dialogues and Participatory Wealth Ranking exercises for Green Camp 2.0. The team mapped two distinct governance landscapes: Drajini Village (Host Community) yesterday, and a massive joint session for Villages 4 and 10 in Zone 1 (Refugee Settlement) today.

The community enthusiastically embraced our 30% Restocking Mandate. Leaders signed off on a structural rule: 30% of all gross saucepan sales are held in digital ledgers to buy future raw materials independently. At month 6, these clusters graduate into self-sustaining, legally registered Green Cooperatives and this was possible through funding from #cohere

Partner with RRSA. When you invest in localised enterprise, protect environmental health, and honour narrative sovereignty and measurable environmental impact, communities build their own self-reliance, this is the future of refugee programming.

Yesterday, 11/6/2026, Reliable Refugee Storytellers Association (RRSA) took a crucial step forward by hosting our Project Introduction Meeting with leaders in Zone 1, Bidibidi Refugee Settlement!

The primary goal of today’s engagement was to secure deep community buy-in and ownership right from the starting line. We are thrilled to share that the response was overwhelmingly positive, with local leaders standing firmly behind our vision for grassroots climate action and household-level ecological restoration.

This vital initiative is proudly funded by IKEA Foundation through Cohere, allowing us to scale up Green Camp 2.0

A huge thank you to our partners at Cohere for believing in refugee-led environmental action, and to the incredible leaders of Zone 1 for their warm reception and unwavering l dedication to the Land!

A project is only as strong as the community’s trust. Today was all about building that trust as we oriented our key community Gatekeepers on our malaria prevention initiative.

From addressing myths to discussing the importance of male involvement in maternal health, the conversation was eye-opening. these leaders are now equipped to be champions of health rights in every household.

Huge thanks to the local leaders and influencers who joined us to discuss how we can collectively safeguard our mothers and babies. This partnership with TASO Uganda and CEHURD is bringing life-saving change to our doorsteps.

Check out some highlights from the session.

No Mother or Baby Left Behind.

Malaria remains a major challenge in Yumbe District but today’s stakeholder meeting proved that when we stand together, we are stronger than any disease.

We are thrilled to introduce our latest project focused on protecting expectant mothers and their little ones from malaria. With the incredible support of TASO Uganda and CEHURD, we are working directly with Village Health Teams (VHTs) and local leaders to make malaria prevention accessible to all.

Stay tuned for more updates as we hit the ground.📍

From Stage to Soil: Youth Lead Climate Action in Bidibidi.

Today, the Green Camp Project brought together youth for a dynamic climate competition. Through competitive quizzes, powerful dramas, and expressive art, young leaders explored solutions to the environmental challenges facing our settlement.

But we didn't just talk about change, we planted it. To combat the evident deforestation in Bidibidi, every participant received fruit and shade tree seedlings. These trees serve as a living commitment to restoring our landscape and securing a greener, more food-secure future.

Today, our office in Zone 1, Bidibidi Refugee Settlement, was buzzing with energy as we hosted a learning visit from the Cohere team. It was a day of vivid exchange, deep listening, and shared vision.

At the heart of our work is the belief that sustainable change happens when global innovation meets local expertise. Our conversations today weren't just about high-level ideas, they were about the practical, community-led solutions that drive real impact.

We are excited about the seeds planted today and are confident they will yield good fruits for the community in the near future.

A big thank you to the Cohere team for the meaningful engagement. We are looking forward to the journey ahead!

Clean up drive in bidibidi zone 1.

These actions were practical and simple. They show how regular, local effort keeps our environment clean and cuts the risk of disease and even soil infertility. Youths practiced sorting waste at collection points. While local leaders pledged to support follow up clean ups and also encouraged the clean up drive to continue then possibly find lasting solutions to littering the environment. The immediate result was visible. Streets and footpaths looked cleaner and safer. The work improved  litter that could harm children and livestock. Equally important, the activities reinforced community responsibility and showed that small, coordinated steps produce lasting benefits.

Together we can keep Bidibidi clean, safe, and healthy.

Reliable Refugee Storytellers Association organized an eco-friendly nature walk and a series of clean up drives in Bidibidi Refugee Settlement zone 1, Yumbe District, Uganda.

Community members, youth volunteers, and local leaders joined the activities to remove litter, clear footpaths, and restore shared spaces used daily by residents.

The nature walk combined short guided segments with practical demonstrations on waste reduction and safe disposal. Participants collected plastic, paper, and other refuse from community corners and public pathways. Teams also cleared drainage channels and swept common areas to reduce hazards and improve access for children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. read more from our website Here

The Wiki for Refugees project will kickstart from 24-25 august 2024. This is a game changing consortium initiative btn Reliable Refugee Storytellers Association, platform Africa, helloworld, open source community south Sudan and Wikipedia community usergroup Uganda aimed at harnessing the power of Wikimedia projects to support and empower refugees and host communities in Uganda. By providing access to information and enabling their active participation in knowledge creation, we aspire to make a positive impact on the lives of displaced individuals. This program will be divided into three parts as follows: Intensive training: Introducing the participants to key skills and tools on how to update/edit and add articles to Wikipedia for participants of the event. Edit-a-thon: Improving stub articles and creating new entries about critical topics, underrepresented groups, initiatives, and up-to-date figures about refugees etc. Creating content for upload on Wikimedia Commons including videos, photos and audios to document the life of refugees in Uganda.
