The "Better Learning for Children Program (BLCP)" has provided several key lessons and best practices that can guide future educational initiatives in refugee camps and underprivileged settings.
Community Engagement is Key: Engaging community leaders and parents early on proved to be crucial. By involving them in training and decision-making, we ensured their active participation in the education process, leading to better outcomes. The engagement of 25 community leaders in peacebuilding and conflict resolution also facilitated a supportive environment for children to learn.
Inclusion and Accessibility Matter: The success of re-enrolling children, including those with disabilities (e.g., the girl in a wheelchair), highlighted the importance of making education accessible to all. Training teachers in inclusive education and learner risk management equipped them with the tools to support diverse learners effectively.
Psycho-social Support Enhances Learning: Offering psychosocial assistance alongside education support helped address the emotional and psychological challenges faced by children, particularly school dropouts. Training 100 parents in child care and psychosocial support fostered a more holistic approach to child development.
Sports and Recreation Build Social Cohesion: Activities like sports4peace promoted teamwork, social interactions, and peace-building among children and youth. This not only enhanced physical health but also helped in building stronger community bonds.
