Lego build a world of play report

The main objective of the "Children with Disabilities" project is to promote learning and social interaction among children aged 4-19 years with disabilities in Uganda through play. The project involves assessment, training of caregivers and volunteers on how to facilitate play activities, and setting up play stations. Later, the project purchases play materials for the centers.

This project aims to benefit children aged 4-19 years old in Bidi Bidi, Imvepi, Rwamwanja Refugee Settlements, and Kampala. A total of 210 children with disabilities were assessed in Rwamwanja, Imvepi, Bidi bidi, and Kampala, within one month. Out of these, 106 were female and 104 were male, with Kampala having the highest number of the host community. Additionally, 201 caregivers were trained in play and learning techniques, out of which 156 were female and 45 were male.

"We have discovered that many parents believe that play can aid in their children's learning. Play can expose children to learning by establishing play centers that can help their education, reduce discrimination, and complement formal education. Caregivers agree that play activities can improve social interaction for children with disabilities, leading to an increase in the capacity of caregivers and outreach workers to use play materials. They have also developed more materials through local resources for home use."
