The organization is now registered as a regional (East Africa) NGO with a new name “YIDA Youth Initiative” since August 2023 and it remains a refugee-led and youth-led charity NGO that was formed to promote refugees’
In the year 2023, YIDA is now an NGO and it’s the year with the highest number of beneficiaries impacted compared to the past years. Together we managed to educate 515 refugee children and connected 90 children to sponsorship and scholarship opportunities for Kindergarten, Primary, Secondary, and University. We impacted 480 refugee entrepreneurs with soft skills and gave them startup capital for business ideas and 70% of entrepreneurs were female youth. We empowered three (3) refugee-led organizations through capacity sharing and training, in the Kyaka II refugee Settlement and gave them funding. The Executive Director won an Award from YIDA Financial Services (YFS) for being the top service provider in the refugee settlement in financial inclusion. YIDA Finance Services has expanded to Kyangwali in 2023 with a big plan to expand in all refugee settlements.

In the entrepreneurship program, we trained and provided them with start-up capital to start their businesses. Below is a story of one entrepreneur and his progress since the training.
“Before joining the YIDA entrepreneurship training, I had no job and no entrepreneurship skills. I found myself waiting for someone to hand me a job and never to create my own. The reality was that I lacked both the skills and the confidence to embark on my entrepreneurial journey. That was until I discovered YIDA's entrepreneurship training program, which changed the course of my life.
My transformation began when I enrolled in the program, and it was here that I gained the confidence to start my very own vegetable garden business. The goal was and still is to combat malnutrition among refugees by cultivating affordable, accessible vegetables.
The financial support in the form of seed funding, amounting to $100 helped me to turn my business idea into a tangible reality. It enabled me to rent a garden, purchase seeds, and prepare the land for cultivation.
YIDA provided me with the extraordinary opportunity to partake in an exchange visit.
