Title: Construction of a learning center,community awareness campaign to promote access to quality inclusive education for children with disabilities.

Summary

We proposed to establish a comprehensive learning center and a targeted community awareness campaign to champion access to quality inclusive education for chldren with disabilities.The learning center served as a hub for educational resources, specialized training, and support services tailored to the unique needs of disabled children.Simultaneously, the community awareness campaign aimed to foster understanding,empathy, and active participation in promoting inclusivity within educational settings. Through these initiatives,we aimed to impower disabled children by providing them with equitable access to education and fostering a culture of inclusivity within our society.

The objective of this project was to enhance access to quality inclusive education for children with disabilities through the construction of a dedicated learning center and the implememtation of a community awareness campaign.(-Establishment a learning center,-Providing comprehensive education,-Promoting inclusive practices,-Empowering disabled children,-Advocating for policy change,Fostering social integration)

Key activities

  • Remedial Inclusive class for the children from 4 to 12 years ( Braille machine & Kenyan sign language for the visual and hearing impairment)
  • School visting by creating inclusive clubs within 5 schools
  • Door to door awareness to find children with disabilities hidden at home
  • Focus group discussion with community and religious leaders

 

Construction of learning center,community awareness campaign to promote access to quality inclusive education for children with disability.

By implementing this project we have been implement was targeting:

  • 200 Targeted  children(with/without) accessing the center and we reached out to 215
  • 405 Targeted Household  and 439 was reached out
  • 500 Targeted learners members of school inclusive clubs and 256 was reached out
  • 200 Targeted Parent to be reached and 253 parents was reached out through Focus group discussion
  • 100 Hidden children to be reached and 104 have been reached out through outreach 

By achieving the objectives, the project aimed to create a more inclusive and equitable educational landscape where all children,regardless of their abilities, have the opportinuty to learn, grow, and succeed.

The project on concstructing a learning center and implementing a community awarenbess campaign for inclusive education for children with disabilities can yield several valuable lessons learned and best practices:

  • Tailored support servises: Recognize and addressing the diverse needs of disabled children through personalized support servises, including educational programs, playing, has significantly enhance their learning outcomes and overall well-being
  • Empowering through education: Provided children with disabilities with access to quality education not only enhances their academic skills but also empowers them to advocate for their rights,participate in decision-making processes, and contribute meaningfullyto society,
  • Holistic approach to inclusion: Adopting a holistic approach to inclusion that addresses not only academic needs but also social,emotional,and physical aspects that was crucial for creating supportive and inclusive learning environments where all children can thrive ,
  • Awareness and sentization: Conducted community awareness campaigns to challenge stereotypes,dispel myths, and promote understanding and acceptance of disability that foster a culture of inclusivity and empathy within the society,
  • Continious learning and adaptation: Recognized that inclusive education is an ongoing process,it is essential to continually evaluate and adapt strategies, policies, and practices based on emerging research, feedback from stakeholders, and evolving needs and priorities
