At the Dzaleka refuge camp in Malawi, there was a serious energy problem for cooking and heating water. Women for Action was able to find a solution to this problem by making organic embers from field waste, rubbish bins, etc. and calling them briquettes. In 2022, we were funded by the UNHCR Malawi and GIVING JOY to teach women with and without disabilities how to make organic embers from biomass. These two projects solved the energy problem in the camp and gave refugee women and girls an income-generating activity. They make the briquettes, use them for cooking, and then use them to cook.
