This Heroes’ Day, we celebrate refugees whose courage continues to shape communities in powerful ways.

The courage to choose hope despite uncertainty.

The resilience to rebuild, adapt, and keep moving forward after loss and displacement.

Through Reframe, we see these stories come together refugee-led organizations supporting, learning from and strengthening one another.

Keep going your strength is shaping a brighter tomorrow.

Happy Heroes’ Day.

Over the past two weeks, our team participated in a two-day Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) training held on 28 May and 1 June 2026 at our office in Ntinda.

The training helped strengthen our skills in data collection, reporting, results measurement, and log frame development. It also deepened our understanding of how data can be used to inform decision-making and improve the quality of our work.

As we continue working with refugee and host communities, strengthening our M&E systems will help us better understand community needs, learn from our experiences, and enhance the services we provide.

We are grateful to our partners for investing in our learning and growth. Opportunities like this help us build a stronger organization and better support the communities we serve.

On 29th May 2026, we welcomed young people from refugee and host communities to our office in Ntinda for a Youth Mental Health Awareness Training.

The session created a safe space for participants to learn about mental health, understand their emotions, recognize signs of mental health challenges, and explore the importance of seeking support early.

Beyond personal learning, participants reflected on the role they can play in supporting their peers and challenging the stigma that often prevents young people from speaking openly about their mental health struggles.

When young people are equipped with knowledge, empathy, and the confidence to seek help, they become powerful agents of change in their communities.

At Refugee Mental Health Network, we remain committed to creating spaces where young people can learn, connect, and have open conversations about mental health without fear of stigma.

Last week on Friday, 14th November 2025, we hosted a team from @wearecohere_org at our offices in Ntinda as part of their follow-up visit to assess how we have utilized the funds received this year from Global Whole Being Fund through @wearecohere_org. The meeting allowed us to walk them through our activities across refugee communities, the impact created, and the challenges encountered. We also explored strategies for strengthening and expanding our work to reach even more communities in need.
The representatives appreciated the progress made, our team’s dedication, and the tangible impact achieved this year.

@RefugeeMHNetwrk, we are proud to continue our partnership, supporting mental health for all.

Yesterday we took part in the National Summit on Strengthening Climate Adaptation for Refugee Women & Host Communities in Uganda, held at Fairway Hotel, Kampala, and organized by (REWON) in partnership with Oxfam in Uganda. The summit brought together refugee women-led organizations, policymakers, and partners to discuss how women from refugee & host communities can meaningfully engage in climate decision-making & lead resilience efforts.
It highlighted how climate change continues to affect displaced populations especially women who provide food, water, & energy for their families while recognizing them as key agents of change shaping Uganda’s climate response. This gathering marks a milestone in empowering refugee women to build a green, resilient future.

On October 17, 2025, we conducted a training with Sudanese women under the theme “The Power of Play: Using Games and Movement to Manage Stress.” As the session unfolded, participants reflected, shared, and reconnected with the simple joy that playful activities can bring. Through conversation and guided reflection, they explored how stress shows up in daily life and how rediscovering playful moments can restore calm, energy, and a sense of relief. By the end of the session, women left with lighter hearts, smiles, and a renewed awareness of how play can heal and bring people closer together, even in challenging circumstances.

Yesterday, we held a community training with the Somali community under the theme “The Power of Play: Using Games and Movement to Manage Stress.” As laughter filled the air, women and youth rediscovered something deeply human that joy itself can heal. Through simple games, reflection, and open conversations, participants explored how stress shows up in their lives and learned how play can restore calm and connection. Moments of relief turned into moments of learning. Many shared how they had forgotten the power of play how laughter could soften heavy hearts and how movement could bring people together again.

Earlier this month, our Finance Officer, Nganji Maximillien Sauveur, took part in a Financial Management Training organized by Fuse Women Initiative in Kyaka II refugee settlement. The training focused on strengthening financial management systems in Women Refugee-Led Organizations, covering compliance, filing returns, paying staff taxes, and onboarding teams to NSSF. This three-day training marks the beginning of our journey to build systems that improve reporting, enhance accountability, and foster trust. We believe strong financial systems are essential for ensuring sustainability and long-term impact in the mental health and well-being of the communities we serve. At Refugee Mental Health Network, we deeply appreciate Fuse Women Initiative for creating such learning spaces that enable refugee-led organizations to grow stronger and more resilient.

On September 17, 2025, our team lead, Nyibol Racheal, took part in the consultative workshop on the National Refugee Policy, hosted by Innovations for Poverty Action with Refugee-Led Organizations and key partners. It became clear during the discussions that this policy must reflect the real experiences and needs of refugees and host communities, not just paperwork. At Refugee Mental Health Network, we value the efforts of all partners who are actively creating opportunities for refugees to engage and contribute, turning participation into meaningful action rather than just discussion for the sake of it.

On 6 September 2025, we brought together front desk personnel from different refugee-led organizations for a training on trauma-informed care and referral pathways. These are the people refugees first encounter when seeking support. Their challenge is not only to manage paperwork or direct traffic but to listen, interpret distress, and connect someone to help before they lose hope. Guided by Sharon Biriah, a clinical psychologist, participants stepped into the shoes of refugees through role plays, case scenarios, and reflection exercises. Sharon’s expertise made complex concepts practical showing how silence can signal trauma, or how empathy can prevent re-traumatization. By the end of the day, front desk personnel were not just staff they had become bridges: connecting refugees to mental health services, protection, and dignity. Sometimes, the strongest systems of care begin with the smallest interactions a face at a desk, a voice saying, “You are safe here.

On 11th July, we held a mental health training with youth from different refugee communities and the host community. The session focused on simple, everyday tools for emotional well-being, such as journaling, affirmation, and grounding practices, to mention but a few. The training was led by Sharon Biriah, a qualified youth counselor and clinical psychologist, who made the session lively and interactive, giving the youth an opportunity to share their different mental health experiences. She helped break down complex mental health concepts making it possible for youth to fully grasp. The most important part of this training was the young people taking on the role of mental health ambassadors even back in their communities and volunteered to extend support to those in need, as they were taught lots of different, everyday, accessible tools that can help in controlling mental well-being.

On July 9th, we held a mental health session with women from the Sudanese community. Many of them are new arrivals, carrying the emotional weights of conflict, separation and survival. In a safe, supported space, some shared their pain. Others simply breathed, sat together, and let the tears fall. What made a deep difference was having a Sudanese mental health counsellor in the room, someone who spoke their language, understood their pain, and looked like them. In moments of grief and healing, representation matters. Sometimes, the most powerful kind of care is being held by someone who knows the road you've walked.
