About

Resilient Achiever Foundation (RAF) is a refugee women-led organization founded in December 2023, based in Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, Kamwenge District, Western Uganda. The organization is founded on the belief that even in the face of displacement, poverty, and hardship, refugees possess the resilience, strength, and potential to rebuild their lives when given the right opportunities and support. RAF’s mission is to empower vulnerable refugee women, girls, youth, and young mothers to become self-reliant, confident, and active contributors to their communities.Refugees in Rwamwanja face challenges including poverty, limited livelihood opportunities, poor child nutrition, skills training, gender-based violence. These challenges hinder families from achieving food security, economic resilience, and social empowerment.Addressing these multidimensional issues requires holistic interventions, community engagement, and strong partnerships. Our Approach and InterventionsRAF addresses these challenges through integrated programs in livelihoods, nutrition, gender equality, and advocacy, in collaboration with key partners. RAF promotes improved household nutrition through initiatives like TAMU NutriRise Baby Porridge, training 90 breastfeeding mothers and 65 youth to prepare nutritious porridge using locally available ingredients. 150 farmers received Vegetable seedlings and trained about kitchen gardens and 86 participants to establish gardens, increasing access to fresh vegetables for families. RAF strengthens women’s economic resilience through Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA), reaching 150 women across five groups. These groups improve financial literacy, enable access to small loans, and support income-generating activities. Livelihood support for craft-making groups and livestock projects has helped women grow small businesses and achieve sustainable income RAF promotes awareness on gender equality, engaged over 500 women, men, girls, and boys. Programs cover gender roles, rights, leadership, financial literacy, and mental wellbeing. Women and girls gain confidence, leadership, and public speaking skills, while men and boys are engaged as allies to foster inclusive communities. RAF strengthens community advocacy for gender equality through training on communication, campaigning, policy engagement, and community mobilization.Participants learn to organize workshops, engage leaders, and influence decisions that promote equitable opportunities.RAF works closely with TSI-Team Spirit International and Tomorrow Vijana, whose support has been critical in scaling programs and enhancing impact. These partnerships provide technical guidance, resources, and mentorship, helping RAF reach more participants, strengthen community engagement, and implement sustainable solutions.ImpactRAF’s initiatives have measurably improved nutrition, increased access to fresh vegetables, strengthened savings culture, and grown small businesses in communities. Our StrengthsDeep understanding of our community as we live and work alongside them.Firsthand knowledge of community needs from the grassroots level.Strong skills in risk assessment and mitigation.Robust financial management systems ensuring transparency and accountability.Highly motivated team committed to driving positive change in the community.OpportunitiesPotential partnerships with international organizations to expand program reach.Access to online grants and funding opportunities for NGOs.Collaboration with OPM and other refugee-led organizations to share knowledge, skills, and resources.Ability to scale successful initiatives through community and stakeholder engagement.ConclusionThrough integrated programs and strategic partnerships, RAF transforms vulnerability into opportunity, equipping refugees with the skills, knowledge, and resources to achieve self-reliance and sustainable development.
