FINAL 2024 REPORT
Raise Chess Academy a refugee led organization supporting refugee youths and children through chess, football and education.
with Support and funding from GLOBAL WHOLE BEING FUND we Embarked on a project to create a safer learning Environment for over 250+ refugee youths and children that attends our programs daily. The project began on 14 February 2024 to 14 December 2024. With this project we successfully created a safer and wider learning environment for children to freely learn and engage with their peers. .
The three main objectives of the project were;
- To ensure that learning and supporting materials such as books, whiteboards, computers, pens, markers among others are available to support participants and coaches in their learning and teaching journeys at RCA.
- To build a safer structure for youths to learn and study that is free from harm, injuries and can help the youths to access it in all weather conditions without any worries.
- The project will also provide the youths access to more knowledge such as farming knowledge where youths who are interested in farming can learn from. This is because RCA is not just regarded as a playing center but regarded as a bridge for success for refugee youths.
The project has three main activities which include construction of a two wooden class rooms, procure support learning materials like white boards, markers, books, pens and and Help starting a Farm for the community to gain knowledge.
This year we were able to reach over 2500 refugee youths and children, provided a safer learning space which brought the community together thanks to the support from Global Whole being fund
This year the Global Whole Being Fund enabled us to;
- construct two wooden classrooms; This two classrooms provided a safe space to learn from the instruct while sitting in a comfortable place, the rooms also has been used to have small meetings for both coaches and participants.
- procurement of class materials such as white boards, benches, books, pens, makers, chats a among others which has facilitated the learning process of students. The materials also used by instructors in supporting the youths in and out of class rooms.
- construction of a farm house dedicated to providing more knowledge to the youths on farming. Agriculture is the back born of the growth of Africa its where all the food we eat comes from, so it is important that youths have the knowledge on best practices animal rearing and crop growing.
Here are a few of the most common lesson learned
- Over the year commodity prices can change which affects the budget but it is up to us to find the best solution to ensure the success of the project
- Its not only a teacher or a student that matters in learning process but also good facilities counts.
- Its important to keep everyone in mind when providing services and support for example is the set up activities that allows the participation of both abled and disables participants .
- Having good facilities attracts youths and encourages them to attend school
- Projects are a short term but the results they bring are long lasting and impactful to the beneficiaries
- We have learned that partners and supporters play a huge role in what we do because it difficult to achieve our goals without support in any form that is needed
